A tenugui (手拭い) is a thin, cotton Japanese hand towel. The sides are cut simply, and as the cloths age with use, they show a little fraying adding to their charm (sometimes the long edges are finished with a selvage).
Tenugui are dyed like other towels with a pattern, but these patterns have become symbols of Japan and very often feature beautiful traditional Japanese themes, or more interestingly modern takes on Japanese themes.
